In June 2008 the London executive approved the acceptance of BPW Parramatta & Greater West as our twin club.  I have been communicating with one of their members, and their club has approved this match as well.  We are now in the process of officially registering the application with BPW International.  In this message, I am providing you with some information about Parramatta.  In my next message, I will provide more information about the club and its activities.  We will try to establish a system of communication so that any of our members may communicate with their members.

Where is Parramatta?  Parramatta City is in the Province of New South Wales, and is located in Sydney’s western suburbs, about 24 kilometres from the Sydney GPO. The City is bounded by Baulkham Hills Shire and Hornsby Shire in the north, the City of Ryde in the east, the Auburn Council area, Bankstown City and Fairfield City in the south and Holroyd City and Blacktown City in the west.
Parramatta, the second British settlement in Australia, was founded in 1788 and was originally known as Rose Hill. It is almost completely surrounded on the west side by the city's suburbs. It was originally planned to make Parramatta the seat of government of the colony, leaving the town with Australia's oldest public building, Old Government House, a fine specimen of colonial Georgian architecture begun in 1790.

The current population of Parramatta is estimated at 155,098.  The population of Parramatta City was heavily concentrated in services employment in 2001, with the largest industries including wholesale and retail trade, finance, insurance and business services and education, health and community services. This is typical of workforces in urban areas, with a comparatively small local manufacturing base.
The largest occupations in Parramatta City in 2001 included clerical, sales and service workers, professionals and tradespersons. This occupational structure suggests that the area is less advantaged in its socio-economic status compared with other areas in the Sydney Statistical Division, with some of the largest occupations based on clerical and 'blue-collar' work with a comparatively lesser skill base.
It is spring in Australia and BPW Parramatta Club is preparing for their National Conference to be held on November 3rd and 4th in Parramatta.  The theme of the conference is “BPW—a new era of leadership”.  BPW Parramatta & Greater West celebrated its 47th anniversary in July.
